:: Community Service

Community Service is unpaid volunteer labor, which is performed in order to fulfill sentencing conditions given by the court. Its purpose is to provide an alternative to incarceration and a means for restitution. Community Service has four functions:

  • A penalty set for crimes against the state, ordered by the judge or magistrate
  • A payment for Home Detention fees.
  • A payment for treatment or classes for the temporarily unemployed and/or indigent.
  • A penalty on the Home Detention Program for violating the rules

The crew meets daily at the Day Reporting Center and travels into the community to various job sites. Examples of jobs include: painting, lot and alley clean up, grass and weed mowing, unloading supplies, trash removal, etc. Persons with valid medical conditions with weitten proof from a doctor may be placed at alternative, less laborious, not for profit agencies.

:: Community Service Contracts

The Community Service crews have open time slots for contracts with area agencies for any job that your organization desires. The contracted work includes:

  • Concert, conference, business or sport event setup and cleanup,
  • Lawn Maintenance,
  • Snow Removal,
  • Furniture or office moving,
  • General cleanup and maintenance, and
  • 100’s of other opportunities

The CS crews provide a lower skilled service, with a crew:supervisor ratio of about 10:1 in most cases, while the social enterprise provides a consistent crew of higher skilled labor. Crews are to be meeting a social need in the community with their work.
